Wells, Dr. Amy
Scientific Aide/Veterinarian


Amy earned a B.S. degree in Marine Biology from UC Santa Cruz in 1995 and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from UC Davis in 2001.  Her interest if wildlife inspired her to pursue a Masters of Preventative Veterinary Medicine from UC Davis in 2002.  For her masters thesis research, she investigated the role of stress in captive cheetahs measured by fecal cortisol analysis.  

Amy is a staff veterinarian at the Avian and Exotic Clinic of the Monterey Peninsula which includes care for sick and injured wildlife from the Monterey SPCA Wildlife Center.  She is also a veterinarian for Focus Wildlife oil spill response and Ventana Condor Reintroduction Program.  Amy joined California Department of Fish and Game Marine Wildlife and Veterinary Care and Research Center in 2006.  She has been involved in the Central California Seabird Health Study and is part of the necropsy team.  Amy can always be found with Super Kramer the wonder terrier close by her side.  

Interests: wildlife, traveling, surfing, mountain biking and snowboarding
