If you are interested in volunteering at this facility, we encourage you to come by and drop off your resumé so that we can notify you if and when a position becomes available. You can also contact our volunteer coordinator, Eva Berberich, at the volunteer hotline: (831) 457-4416. We will also announce when we are recruiting volunteers on this website. Both our research and oil spill response work relies heavily on the generosity of volunteers. Our volunteers fully participate in every aspect of this facility's operations. During spill responses, we have had volunteers staffing this facility 24 hours a day cleaning oiled wildlife and collecting oiled wildlife from beaches. During non-spill response times, we have between 3 and 6 volunteers assisting us in our research. This can be anything from assisting on sea otter necropsies to laboratory work to performing data entry in our databases to collecting dead sea otters off beaches in our area. Many of our volunteers have gone on to cutting-edge research oriented DVM and Ph. D programs, and to part-time and full-time positions at this facility. Numerous projects started here have gone on to be published. We generally go through a volunteer selection process once or twice a year, depending on our needs.
