The Marine Mammal Physiology Project (MMPP) is run by the Long Marine Lab, a research unit of the UC Santa Cruz Institute of Marine Sciences.

The MMPP trains animals housed both at the Long Marine Lab and at our facility. Having this program jointly run at our facility helps fulfill our agreement with the University (see the Introduction in the Virtual Tour) and greatly benefits both our own research efforts, and the efforts of other researchers affiliated with UCSC.

The MMPP is comprised of a Principle Investigator (Professor Terry Williams of UCSC IMS), two Senior Animal Trainers (Traci Fink and Beau Richter), and many volunteers who feed and train the animals and clean the pools 365 days a year. The welfare of the animals is overseen by an independent committee, IAACUC, made of community members, academics at outside universities, and veterinarians. The daily health of the animals is overseen by Dr. David Casper, the UCSC campus veterinarian.
