mwvcrc.org sides: deleted mos_ prefix tables. We’ll be keeping with Joomla from here on out.

: moved albums, gallery directory into root of website.

Installed Joomla 1.011 to parallel mwvcrc.org install. Tables in milez_db as jos_

Content consisting mostly of static pages

Good thing I’m testing out the Joomla 1.5 install on a test website. After dumping the tables using the com migratory tool and getting errors until I changed permissions on the /tmp directory, I was actually able to get 1.5 working with migrated tables—except it wouldn’t display anything on the front page and the back-end interface sucked! So now I’m downgrading back to 1.0.11 by simply unzipping the install file into the same directory. If it freaks out because of the upgraded table structure, I’ll have to attempt a full dump of the backed up data into jos_ tables after dumping the upgrade ones entirely.

SUCCESS: If one wants to easily back up their tables:

Backup: Use com_migrator, and save a copy of the FULL backup that is output.

Restore: Import that tar.gz file back into the database with phpMyadmin.

Mwvcrc.org: Added td row and logo in upper left hand corner. Also modified header to include mwvcrc.org text. I had to place the logo outside of the Joomla directory to get it to display.

Mwvcrc.org: installed community builder

To all websites: added a .htaccess file to root of all websites ~web/ with the line

Options –Indexes

To prohibit directory listings

Also, for some reason, the mos_image mambot got unpublished. I had to publish it again to get the images to load into the site.

Installed com_Bookmarks 2.7 to mwvcrc.org – to manage affiliated institutions page

Installed com_joomla explorer to mwvcrc.org – admin side explorer to delete apache created files

Installed peoplebook 1.16 to manage staff listing

Important—the uninstall component options are under the install menus.

11/4/06

Modified footer.php in the includes directory to include Website Credits and Disclaimer

11/5/06

installed peoplebook searchbot

Modified componenets/com_peoplebook/peoplebook.html.php to strip out search bar.

11/6/06

Fixed “not_acceptable” errors in PeopleBook fullview of staff member by adding:

<IfModule mod_security.c>

SecFilterEngine Off

SecFilterScanPOST Off

</IfModule>

to the.htaccess file at the root of all websites hosted on this server, as outlined here:

http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=167121

removed search function from peoplebook by removing form (and table) from peoplebook.html.php

I enabled pictures to have borders displayed around them by adding the following CSS to the simplicity_blue template CSS file (which I copied from the solarflare template:

div.mosimage {
border: 1px solid #ccc;
}

.mosimage {
border: 1px solid #cccccc;
margin: 5px
}

.mosimage_caption {
margin-top: 2px;
background: #efefef;
padding: 1px 2px;
color: #666;
font-size: 10px;
border-top: 1px solid #cccccc;
}

I'm now using ebackup to backup the site weekly, with 52 copies kept on hand (for extreme backup action). I had to make sure the administrator/backups folder was web-writable, but then it worked fine.

I also backed up everything else in the website by issusing the command: tar cvf sitebackup/mwvcrc0.tar web/mwvcrc.org

which made a tarball (archive) of the active site, and stashed it in a directory outside of the webroot for safekeeping.

Updated display properties for news and faq.

Updated FAQ items, Miles' bio, stranding guide.

Cleaned up news section.

11/20/06

At times it feels like Joomla! is iommpossibly frustrating to work with, but I've been updating the "About This Facility" section and I learned something awesome. Under "Parameters" for each item, if you choose "hide intro text" it will hide text ANDimages when you click on the "read more.." link.

Anyway, I'm updating and completing all of the About this Facility items except for Contruction and Design, which invloves a powwow between MW, DJ and myself.

Outreach page done: with photo by MR, on the About.. page. (MR)

gallery2 installed under Multimedia menu, with Gallery2 Joomla module bridging.

11/21/06

Joomla Mind Map is now linked from the Site Index on the Main menu, replacing the Joomla Indexer Component--which was too confusing anyway..

Laboriously did I also move the static items I created (About this website, website log, disclaimer, and useful unix commands) over to the content section/category About the facility/About the Website, but had to copy and paste it all.

11/22/06

Added Beth, Hannah, Mike to user list (Nancy added yesterday, Francesca added a while back) to admin back end. Sent them all instructions on how to post news articles

11/24/06

Installed JoomlaCloud as experimental module for frequency distributions of words display. Had to also installed log4php by the same developer to get it to work.

11/27/06

Finished off the "About this website" section.

Transferred Mel's Library Access Database into mySQL as jos_pub using the mySQL ODBC connector, 1,051 rows imported. Because of the prefix, it shhould hopefully get swept into the ebackup cycle.
